James Murphy

James Murphy wrote the song “Losing My Edge” when he was 32. It was not his last attempt to become a star, but rather his initial, loud proclamation: “who cares?” The song was a massive success and also the birth of Murphy’s career under the moniker LCD Soundsystem. But, let’s be clear: LCD Soundsystem is James Murphy. Although he surrounds himself by well-known musicians as a tour band, LCD Soundsystem is a one-man band, From the P-funk disco of the self-titled “LCD Soundsystem” (DFA, 2005) to the revolution of dance music laid out on analog instruments on “This is Happening” (DFA, 2011), Murphy’s gaze has always been visionary. It is this vision that has fostered the base of Murphy’s work on his own label DFA Records, a platform that shelters artists such as Hot Chip, The Rapture and Hercules & Love Affair, among others. After the release of “This is Happening,” Murphy announced that LCD Soundsystem had disbanded and he was going to devote himself entirely to the label. Well, that and his other passions of the senses: coffee and the foodie world. After all, it is all a matter of taste.
